Pre-Vocational & Vocational Training

Empowerment begins with skill. At Sirisha Rehabilitation Centre (SRC), our Pre-Vocational and Vocational Training Program is designed to prepare Children and Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) for a life of independence, self-reliance, and economic inclusion. We believe that every individual, regardless of ability, has the right to work, earn, and live with dignity.

Purpose of the Program

Many individuals with disabilities face systemic exclusion from mainstream employment due to stigma, lack of training, or inaccessible environments. Our program bridges this gap by helping them develop practical, marketable skills and building a foundation for sustainable livelihoods.

We aim to ensure:

  • 🌱 Early exposure to life skills and work ethics

  • 🧠 Development of fine motor skills, attention span, and task focus

  • 🤝 Preparation for sheltered or open employment

  • 💼 Economic participation through supported or self-employment

Pre-Vocational Training

Pre-vocational training serves as the stepping stone toward vocational readiness. It focuses on developing the basic abilities and behaviors required for any workplace or productive setting.

Key areas include:

  • Daily living and self-care routines

  • Work behavior (punctuality, cooperation, responsibility)

  • Communication and social skills

  • Attention and task-completion

  • Basic numeracy and literacy

  • Simple assembly and sorting tasks

  • Following instructions and using tools

Pre-vocational training also includes interest assessments to match individuals with suitable vocations based on their strengths and preferences.

Vocational Training

Once foundational skills are in place, individuals move on to vocational training, where they learn specific trades and crafts under the guidance of skilled trainers and rehabilitation professionals.

Training areas may include:

  • 📦 Paper Bag and Envelope Making

  • 🌿 Gardening and Nursery Work

  • 🧼 Detergent and Phenyl Preparation

  • 🖨️ Printing, Lamination, and Binding

  • 🎨 Art, Craft, and Handmade Products

  • 🍪 Basic Cooking and Snack Preparation

Our workshops function as safe and structured learning environments where trainees practice, produce, and sometimes earn through what they make.

Beyond Training – Toward Inclusion

We actively:

  • Partner with local businesses and industries for job placements

  • Run sheltered workshops for those needing continued support

  • Encourage home-based employment models for families

  • Create micro-entrepreneurship opportunities with guidance and follow-up

  • Offer career guidance and counseling for families and trainees

Real Impact

Through this program, many of our trainees have transformed into confident workers, artisans, and micro-entrepreneurs. They now contribute to their households, gain self-worth, and find respect in society. For their families, this represents hope, pride, and a break from dependency.
